Dwissh: Funny Is Only Part of the Story

For Sole Speak: On Site, Queenin caught up with Dwissh, host of the Frequency Tour, for a conversation that moved beyond the personality people usually see.

Dwissh is funny. That part isn’t hard to find.

But Sole Speak wanted to know: Who is Dwissh when he isn’t being funny?

That question opened the door to a different side of the man holding the microphone.

Behind the jokes is someone who genuinely believes in supporting artists and creating space for their work to be experienced. On this night, hosting wasn’t simply about keeping the crowd entertained between performances. Dwissh was part of carrying the energy of the room while helping each artist have their moment.

And there’s a difference between being the center of attention and knowing how to hold attention for somebody else.

Throughout the Frequency Tour, Dwissh moved between humor, introductions, crowd interaction and support for the performers taking the stage. The personality was still there, but so was the purpose behind it.

That’s what made our conversation interesting.

Sometimes the version of a person that audiences know best is only one piece of them. The comedian can be thoughtful. The entertainer can be intentional. The person making everybody laugh can also be paying close attention to the people around him.

For Dwissh, supporting artists is part of what exists underneath the funny.

And once the conversation ended, he went right back to the microphone—hosting the Frequency Tour and helping move the night forward.

That’s another reason Sole Speak goes On Site.

Sometimes you have to catch somebody between the jokes to hear what else they have to say.
